The Best Greek Food in Detroit

Detroit has a large Greek population and a whole section of town called Greektown is where you can find the best Greek restaurants. If you want real authentic Greek food than you should try either the Laikon Cafe, Cyprus Taverna or the New Hellas Restaurant.

The Laikon Cafe is probably the oldest Greek restaurant in all of Greektown. Located at 569 Monroe St. the Laikon Cafe is 80 years old. Many people consider it to be the best Greek restaurant in all of the Detroit. The prices are extremely low averaging $12-$13 per dish. There are some more expensive dishes but the standard fare is in the lower range. If you want amazing and authentic Greek food the Laikon Cafe is definitely the place to go.

The Cyprus Taverna is another Greektown restaurant. Just a few doors down from the Laikon Cafe the address of the Cyprus Taverna is 579 Monroe St. Their specialty is stuffed grape leaves which are said to be delicious. Another favorite dish at the Cyprus Tavern is Sagnaki.

If you wander down the street another block or less you’ll get to the New Hellas Restaurant. This is another mainstay of Detroit’s Greektown. Some customers have been frequenting this restaurant for over 40 years. The New Hellas Restaurant’s specialty is flaming cheese. This is a dish that you won’t want to miss if you eat at this restaurant. As with most restaurants in Greek town the prices here are extremely modest. If you want authentic and delicious Greek food in Detroit, this restaurant is another excellent option.
