When I was fourteen, my Dad and my Mom got a divorce. Even though I was fairly young, I was always mature for my age, so I was able to handle the divorce quite well. There were times when I wished that we could all live under the same roof, but I simply accepted the fact that I wasn’t going to get to spend time with my Dad and Mom at the same time.

However, the event that really hurt me occurred two years later. When I was fifteen, my Dad started dating a new woman. I didn’t mind this woman, but for some reason, she hated my siblings and I. So, when I was sixteen, she told my Dad they were moving away together, or she was going to leave him. He ended up choosing her over us, and that brought our relationship to an end.

Fast forward to twelve years later, and my Dad is no longer with this woman. Because of this, he has spent the last year and a half reaching out to me and trying to rebuild our relationship. I was very resistant at first, but over time I could tell he had really good intentions, which is why I agreed to go visit him in Detroit last month. I actually got a rental car in case I decided I wanted to leave, but I ended up staying the entire trip, and I think that we made a lot of progress reconnecting with each other.

Although I no longer live there, Detroit will always be the city that I consider to be my home. The reason that I will always feel this way is because Detroit is the place where I was born and raised. Since I have such a strong attachment to Detroit, you may be wondering why I no longer live there. Well, while I do intend to eventually return to Detroit, the reason that I’m not currently living there is because of my job. I was offered a higher paying position in another city, so I decided the best thing for me to do was to move away from Detroit and take that position.

While Detroit isn’t currently my home, that doesn’t mean that I no longer go there. Since my parents still live in Detroit, I go back there quite often. The great thing about my new position is that I’m currently located close enough to Detroit so I can rent a car and drive down to Detroit in a matter of hours. I’m not a big fan of flying, so it’s really nice for me that I have the option to simply drive to Detroit in a relatively short amount of time.

Last month, I took a business trip to Detroit. I say that it was a short business trip, because I was only there for three days. However, I was honestly amazed at how much I got done during those three days in Detroit. Not only did I hold several meetings in just three days, but because I had access to an office while I was there, I was also able to get quite a bit of my regular work done. Since I can access everything I need as long as I have an Internet connection, I was able to bring my laptop to Detroit, set it up in the office space that I had access to use and then get to work.

While about ninety percent of my trip to Detroit was filled up with business related things, I did find a little time to squeeze in some personal enjoyment. Because I really enjoy good food, prior to going to Detroit, I had looked up a variety of Detroit restaurant reviews, and found three that I really wanted to try. I had a rental car to use, so it wasn’t hard to get to these restaurants at night, and I’m happy to say that I was pleased with the food that I had at all three places.

About a month and a half ago, I realized that I needed a break. I was getting really burnt out from working so much, and I realized that if I didn’t take some time for myself, I was going to run out of energy (which would obviously have a negative impact on my performance at work).

Instead of waiting around for this to happen, I decided to take action. I got online, and after looking through a couple of different travel deal websites, I came across a great deal on a short trip to Detroit. Since I only wanted to take a couple of days off, the length of this trip looked perfect to me. In addition to booking my flight and hotel for Detroit, I also got a rental car in Detroit. This was a nice thing to have during my trip, because it allowed me to easily get around without having to worry about trying to stick to any kind of schedule.

My vacation turned out to be a very relaxing experience, and it definitely made me a happier person when I returned to work and got back into my daily schedule.
